This Beastlie pretty accurately represents my feelings this morning upon discovering Sculpey had come out with new colors. It’s like if you were a, I don’t know, a pie maker and one day someone was like “Check out this new chocoberry bush!” You’d be like “Holy butts!” Or at least I would. And was, this morning…. as I bought overflowing handfuls of “Gentle Plum,” “Tranquility,” and “Camouflage.” (They didn’t have “Jungle.” But next time, it shall be mine.)

Awesome stuff as usual! I own a few beastlies. I was curious, do you have help running this "company" you have going on? :)

So, no but also yes. Beastlies is really just me. But I do also have this permanent unpaid intern who lives with me! My husband Emory helps with packaging, shipping, financial bizniz, and if you’ve met me at Comic-Con, you likely also met him (unless you met me last year. He had to stay home and work. Our buddies Jeff & Frank held down the table with me, as they have many times before). Also, gotta love that health insurance! If Emory didn’t have a job that provided that, I probably wouldn’t have felt comfortable pursuing Beastlies full time. Health insurance is nothing to sneeze at.

Man! Comic-Con is actually REALLY SOON. This is always the time of year when I begin to be simultaneously freaked out about the amount of stuff I have left to do and super excited meet people to show you guys all the new stuff I’ve been working on. I made a little teaser image of some of the type of things I’ll be bringing (in addition to regular Beastlies, of course!) that I’ve never offered before. I love new projects!

And now I’ve got to get back to sculpting. My goal is to bring 200 of the regular-type Beastlies, and I’ve only got 115 so far. Today I’ve decided that if I don’t meet my daily quota, I don’t get any of the afternoon snack they provide here at the office. THE STAKES HAVE NEVER BEEN HIGHER.

Sometimes you’ve just got to treat yourself like a petulant toddler in order to get shit done.

So the show went wonderfully! Shing and I were so blown away by all the support (and red dots!) Big thanks to everyone who came out; it was a lot of fun!

Los Angeles locals, the show opens TONIGHT!!
One last summary of it… It’s actually two shows: The Corner Museum of Dubious Beasts—which is half my work, half Shing Yin Khor’s work— and the Supah Mashup Party, which is all collaborative pieces— including one by me and Shing! So she and I are just all over the place. There will also be food, drinks, cupcakes, a dj, etc etc. Come see us!
